PequeCiudad is a project organized by the Directorate of Institutional Communication of the University of Computer Science (UCI) that will air the coming year and arose because of the need to send through the radio a children's program for children living in This community. To find out more about its creation and activities, this reporter talked with her coordinator Yailin Simón Mir.

Why did you give birth PequeCiudad project ?

There is a programation intended for the university community entirely , but at no time the children that live here have been taken into account and today more than 140 children are living in this city. They are here, they are talented and eager to do things Beautiful.

- What are the goals of this project?

- There are several, among them are: foster in children a passion for literature and music through storytelling and children's songs; To cultivate the positive feelings so that these moral qualities flourish over the vices, defects and errors of the people; Stimulate and develop in them emotional intelligence, language and imagination and thus foster social relations.

- When did you start?

- The idea of PequeCiudad came about in September 2016, but the work the children began on October 14, when the first program was recorded.

"The children involved do not yet have the locution skills, some do not have good diction and sometimes work is done to achieve the intonation that is wanted, but that freshness and naturalness that only children have is what interests us.

"I think they will gradually pick up the pace. We pretend not to resemble any radio program, there are many in which the role of children make them adults, but it is not the same.

- What time will the program be on Digital city radio?

- We are now involved in the recording of several programs that will soon be on air on our community radio station " Radio Ciudad Digital". It is planned to broadcast a program weakly early in the morning (7:00 a.m.), just before the children leave for school, in addition to having their publication on InterNos.

- How many children do you have so far?

- To our satisfaction in each meeting are added new children, at the workshop attend 30 small children at the moment. Children range from 4 to 11 years old, some still in kinder school and first grade, who still can not read.

- What are the main activities you do?

- The project PequeCiudad is divided into two parts, one is the workshop where children work on the skills of the different radio roles, they are left with tasks where they perform interpretation exercises, they play, they sing and they foster moral values, discipline, imagination and socialization.

"The other part is the radio program with the same name: PequeCiudad. The fundamental idea is that the program happens in a city of dreams that they themselves help to build. They dramatize a story and tell what they learn from it.

"We started the first series of programs with José Martí, because it is a figure they know well and appreciate. Here the Apostle comes to visit our city andit is accompanied by children's music that never fails. "

- Do you get support from other people?

- Yes, we have several people who advise us and help us to get on with the project.

- What about meetings with the children?

- We try to make the meetings as fun as possible, play games, make stories, dramatize situations and teach the basic things about radio.

"All this while maintaining strict discipline. Now we are focused on important aspects of the locution and children are already starting in radio interviews.

- How did they pay tribute to Fidel?

- There was a little girl who wanted to talk, but she could barely understand what she was saying because she was very excited.

"It is impressive that children being five or six can talk about a man as immense as Fidel, from what their parents or teachers told them at school, It was very emotional.

"I can assure you that there was no adult to tell you what to say, they expressed what they wanted spontaneously. Most of them could not go to the Revolution Square and wanted to pay tribute as well, and this was their way of paying homage to him. "

This community project allows young people living in this university city to learn and develop skills that will enable them to become better students in the future.
