The 11th edition of the Progressive Competitive Programming Competition was held from June 5 to 18, with the participation of students from more than 100 universities around the world.

As a result of the competition, Ernesto Teruel Velazco, a student from UCI's Introductory School of Computer Sciences (FICI), who is also a member of the Competitive Programming Movement Tomás López Jiménez, won the sixth place among 400 competitors in the competition.

It was for this reason that our house of higher studies wanted to reward this young man for the results obtained, by awarding him with a certificate of recognition and by giving him a good piece of news, when the Rector of this institution, Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García told him about the joint agreement of his school executive board to validate the examination of Programming, which he was supposed to be doing together with his classmates that morning.

The Rector explained that "one could not ignore such deserved recognition just before the Programming final exam. She added that this University aspires to be able to have some day, a significant number of competitors in this kind of international events, with results such as those recently obtained by the University of Havana represented by the UH ++ team, winner of the first place in Latin America and the 41 position in the ACM-ICPC contest".

Also present at the ceremony, there were MSc. Reina Victoria Estrada Nelson, Dean of the FICI School; Benjamín Muñoz Peñalver, Director of Security and Protection; the engineer Dovier Antonio Ripoll Méndez, General Director of the ACM-ICPC in the Caribbean Region, and other members of the School Executive Board.

When asked about his impressions, Ernesto Teruel confessed that this emotional ceremony had surprised him. About his experiences, he told us that it was a week of arduous competition, where he learned a lot, and added that whenever he was in doubt, he asked in order to obtain the necessary answers that could help him find the correct solution to those problems posed.
