As part of the process to obtain the category of Excellence, the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI) presents its postgraduate programs to the National Accreditation Board (JAN), which evaluates them as Certified, Accredited or Excellence, in that order of Level, according to the fulfillment of the parameters established by the Ministry of Higher Education.

In 2015 the Master's Degree in Computer Project Management was evaluated for Excellence and the following year, the Degree in Computer Engineering was determined.

For this reason, from the 24th to the 28th of April 2017, the JAN is in the UCI in the process of accreditation of the MSc in Software Quality and the Doctoral Program in Computer Science, in order to evaluate the quality of the training of Masters and doctors. At the head of the evaluation team of the Doctoral Program is Ph.D. Julieta Coro Bermello, from the University of Havana, and of the Masters, the Ph.D. Nereyda Cruz Tejas, from the University of Pedagogical Sciences "Enrique José Varona".

Also included in the teams are the PhDs in Sciences, Pedro Lázaro Romero Suárez, from the Higher Institute of Technologies and Applied Sciences; Rogelio Lau Fernández, from the Technological University of Havana "José Antonio Echeverría" (CUJAE); Godofredo Ramón Garay Álvarez, from the University of Camagüey; Gheisa Lucía Ferreira Lorenzo, from the "Marta Abreu" Central University of Las Villas; Omar Ochoa Rodríguez, from the Institute of Mathematical and Physical Cybernetics; And Carlos Ramón López Paz, from CUJAE.

After welcoming the members of the JAN and presenting to the University Council, the members of the Academic Committees of the Programs and the highest representatives of the political and mass organizations in the institution, Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García, Rector of the UCI, made a presentation of the university campus and its main achievements, with emphasis on postgraduate training for graduates of the center, other institutions and countries.

The Rector stressed that the software development processes are certified with CMMI level 2, and that since 2016, the University of Informatics Sciences occupies the third place in the ranking of universities in Latin America that support free software the most, Which also gives Cuba equal position in the region.

The evaluators of the JAN thanked the presentation which, they said, shows the strength of the institution, despite its youth. They affirmed that in the rest of the day, both teams will study the documentation presented to appreciate the quality of the Master in Software Quality and the Doctorate in Computer Science, as the beginning of the process that will conclude this Friday.
