UCI held its eleventh graduation ceremony

The University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) held its 11th graduation ceremony on July 19 in the Karl Marx theater of the capital; the 362 new engineers who culminated their academic studies have been assigned  the task of continuing to contribute with the computerization of society, the teaching of computing, and the development of economy in  Cuba.

The meeting was dedicated to our eternal Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, creator of this house of higher studies, about to celebrate its 15th Anniversary; it was also dedicated to both the 95th anniversary of the Foundation by the student leader Julio Antonio Mella of the Student University Federation (FEU), and to the Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara, in the 50 Anniversary of his death in combat.

Other participants in the ceremony were the Commander of the Revolution Guillermo García Frías; Ph.D. José Ramón Saborido Loidi, Minister of Higher Education; Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García, UCI Rector; Yosvani Montano, National President of FEU; Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), accompanied by senior officials of organizations and organizations in the country; members of the University Council; a representation of students, university staff, and relatives of the graduates.

In her speech, the Rector congratulated all the graduates who are now part of the 14 458 Computer Science engineers that this institution has graduated and who are sharing their knowledge in every corner of our country.

She also urged them to be better prepared professionals and to continue defending, wherever they might be, this great work for which our heroes and martyrs fought, to remain connected forever with the future and with the Revolution.

The students who achieved relevant results during their studies, in the academic field, research, production, university extension and overall education were given recognition; they were:

  • Carlos Yordan González Herrera: Golden Title, Scientific Merit Award and  Mella Award
  • Ortelio Francisco Hernández Socarrás: Golden Title, Scientific Merit Award and  Mella Award
  • Daynis Rodríguez Ramos:Golden Title
  • Reiman Alfonso Azcuy: Golden Title, Scientific Merit Award and  Mella Award
  • Alejandro Miguel Medina Pichs: Golden Title
  • Ismary Izquierdo Domínguez:Golden Title and  Mella Award

The activity was enlivened by the troubadour Eduardo Sosa, the amateur artist Luis Daniel Castro Durán, an instrumental trio, the dance group Espacio Abierto and the musical group Yo soy el punto cubano.

On behalf of the graduates, Carlos Yordan González thanked all the University professors for their teaching, and he ratified the commitment of the young people to continue defending our Socialism.

Ph.D. Nicado García also received from the hands of the Radio Reloj reporter, Lázaro Chang Macate, the 70th Anniversary plaque of this radio station, an award given to organizations and institutions of recognized national prestige which  are part of the central editorial line, building collaborative ties among them.

An exceptional moment occurred when the Commander of the Revolution Guillermo Garcia, received a gift from the hands of the university Rector dedicated to Army General  Raul Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers. It consisted of a postcard from the protagonists of the 11th graduation and a replica of Julio Antonio Mella sculpture, as a reaffirmation of the commitment of young people to give continuity to our revolutionary process.

The most awaited moment was reserved to conclude the ceremony: conferring on the rest of the students the certificates that declare them as Computer Science Engineers.
