The II National Workshop of Distance Education takes place at UCI

Representatives from different universities and experts on Distance Education (DE) in Cuba held an exchange of ideas and experiences at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) this past Wednesday. The main debate topic was the current situation of this modality in the Higher Education of the country, its perspectives, the adjustments to the current legal framework and the main documents required by the higher education centers for the implementation of the new Model.

At the opening of the II National Workshop on Distance Education, the postgraduate director of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), Dr Sc.,  Amarilys Torres Ramírez, highlighted the integration achieved between undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Distance Education  in Cuba. She also referred to the challenge that society faces in terms of access to national navigation, and in that sense, she referred to the futuristic vision of the university to offer the population everything that is done in digital platforms, either for training or for the postgraduate.

The Model of Distance Education for undergraduate and postgraduate students, which strategies for its implementation in a technical career begun to be  elaborated and defined  in 2015,  also became the theme of the interventions from Dr. Sc., Lidia Ruiz Ortiz, Director of the Center for Distance Education  at UCI ( Cened) and the MES coordinator, Dr. Sc.. Berha Pichs Herrera.

Meanwhile,  Dr.C. Alexis Torres Alonso, a researcher at the Center for Distance Education of the Agrarian University of Havana (Unah), in Mayabeque, explained the experience of the implementation strategy of the DE model in this institution.

This Thursday, the educators will socialize the new stage of the computerization of processes for MES and the experiences of the DE Model in the Engineering career in agroindustrial processes. They will also examine the implementation strategy of the DE Model in the Computer  Project Management Master Program, as well as the use of educational platforms for distance education
During the afternoon session the commissions analyzed the topics addressed at the beginning of the Workshop.

The II National Workshop on Distance Educationin Cuba which takes place in this university will seal the working debates this May 18th with,  among other results,  the norms and procedures of distance education for the postgraduate.

The Norms and Procedures for Distance Education in the postgraduate will be one of the results to be notified among the main agreements of the  other results to be notified.
