The university of Informatics Sciences (UCI) has just received the gratifying news that it has been approved as a Science and Technology Park (STPs) by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP); in addition, it is the first university to receive this category in our country.

The International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) was founded in 1984, and since September 1995, its world headquarters were established in the The Andalusia Technology Park in Málaga Spain and a regional office in Pekin, China.

According to information given by this organization, at present there are nearly 1 3000 Science and Technology Parks in the world, which are already spread across about eighty countries of all continents, with a greater concentration in those regions with the most developed economies.

In order to grant this condition, it is demanded from specialized professionals to manage it. Besides, seven strategic axes are taken into consideration and the position of every park in each of these axes is determined from the exhaustive analysis of a whole series of indicators for each axis. They are:

  • Location and environment
  • Position in the flow of technology
  • Priority companies
  • Specialization
  • Action areas
  • Networks
  • Management and proprietary model
