Members of the University Council honored the athletes and coaches who participated in the thirteenth edition of the National Sports Competition, “Universiada”, recently held in the province of Camagüey.
At the event, held in the area of “La Casona” Carlos Alain Avila, summarized the performance of UCI delegation, which occupied  the fifth position in this version of the Cuban university students’ sports party.

The University Rector, Dr. Miriam Nicado García, congratulated all the athletes who worthily represented the colors of our institution and stressed how proud UCI is that Yoana González , the best chess player in the country in this sporting event is in our institution.

At this emotional moment of the meeting, the member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and the Council of State, read to the audience the letter sent from El Salvador by Professor Gregorio Morales, who highlighted the historic performance of his pupils in the sports event.

With the reception to the 29 members who represented our university, there also arose a special thanks to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro for being the main driver of sports in this house of higher studies.

In their speeches, athletes and trainers expressed their gratitude to the University for the support received and promised to continue striving to enhance sports in higher education center.
