From June 12 to June 16, 2017, Cuba participates in the International World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Follow-up Forum), which takes place at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Cuban delegation, led by Wilfredo González Vidal, Deputy Minister of Communications, is composed of representatives from entities linked to the computerization process of our society, such as Infomed, Cinesoft, Cubarte, the University of Informatics Science (UCI), and the Union of Computer specialists of Cuba (UIC).As for UCI, it is represented by Dr. Sc., Raydel Montesino Perurena, Deputy Rector and Reinaldo García Maturell, head of Department of Vertex Center.

The WSIS Prizes ceremony took place today, where, after the voting process, Cuba was recognized with the inclusion of the health telematic network Infomed and the Pachamama Game Jam 2016 of the University of Informatics Sciences.

Other Cuban winners awarded were the Cuban Kitchen project, from the Isla de la Juventud University Jesús Montané Oropesa, and the Cuban Collaborative Encyclopedia EcuRed, from the Youth Computer Club.

These winners, awarded in the different categories, recognize successful public initiatives from the private sector, the civil society, international organizations and academic institutions linked to the development of the Information Society.

The 2017 World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) is the world's largest annual meeting of the “ICT community for development”. The WSIS Annual Forum is a global multi-stakeholder platform that facilitates the implementation of the Lines of Action needed to promote sustainable development.

It provides an opportunity for the exchange of information, knowledge creation and exchange of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and promoting partnerships, taking into account the evolution of Information and Knowledge Societies.

The Forum is constantly evolving and strengthening the alignment between the WSIS Action Lines and the Sustainable Development Goals. It will serve as a key platform for discussing the role of ICTs as a means of implementing the Objectives and Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account the global mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Program.
