This Thursday, August 24, at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) the methodological preparation meeting of the teaching staff continues for faculty members to take on new challenges in the academic year 2017-2018.

On this day, the Hall of Events of School Building 4  became  the venue for the workshop dedicated to the analysis of the main functions of methodological work included in Resolution 210/2007 (Teaching and Methodological Work Regulations) issued by the Ministry of Higher Education. Dr.Sc. José Ortíz Rojas, Director of the Teaching Methodological Directorate, was in charge of the workshop which aimed at guaranteeing an adequate development of the educational process at the University.

During his presentation, Ortíz Rojas emphasized on the role and work of the teacher in front of the class group; he also referred to the organization of work both in the different groups (career, year, discipline, subject) and the management levels (department, school, municipal teaching center, higher education institution).

Among the aspects debated by the attendees, there were the evaluation reports to classes with data that sufficiently justify the results issued afterwards, and the need for the alignment of all the explanations given to the external evaluators by the groups which will be evaluated during the institutional coming visit.

Likewise, the Director of the Teaching Methodological Directorate said that this house of higher studies is getting ready to submit and discuss the “E” Curriculum for the university career Engineering in Computer Sciences next February 2018.

One of the results of the meeting was the agreement to hold a meeting in each work group entrusted with the management of a given year to define the methodological work to be developed in this academic year, also indicating how each subject will contribute to the objectives of the student’s current year of study.

Likewise, the faculty members of the Bioinformatics career, under the leadership of MSc. Mario Pupo Meriño, head of the career national commission and of the academic staff at  UCI, held a meeting to discuss specific aspects of the four-year curriculum of this new university career, which starts  next September 4 with a 33 students. Its core curriculum includes 12 disciplines which directly interact with the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM), the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and the Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kourí" (IPK).
