The X University Chess Tournament "Remberto Fernández", in its first international edition, was inaugurated this Wednesday afternoon in the Salón Me Dicen Cuba of the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI).

The competition will be held on till  March 24th, with the participation of 22 players from four countries (Dominican Republic, Colombia, Norway and Cuba), divided into Elite, Premier and Talent groups. Among the attendees are also three international referees.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Ph.D. Raydel Montesino Perurena, deputy rector of the institution; The MSc. Silvano Merced Len, Vice-Rector of University Extension and Residence; Carlos Rivero González, National Commissioner of Chess, Pedro Lázaro Puentes Álvarez, an official of the Ministry of Higher Education and the MSc. Isbel Herrera del Sol, director of the Honorary Chess Chair Remberto Fernández.

The central words were in charge of the MSc. Merced Len, who welcomed the participants and thanked them for attending the event. The Vice-Rector recalled in his speech that our University, from the beginning, has had a close relationship with sport, being chess the most outstanding and systematic.

At the end of the inaugural ceremony, the participants moved to the chair of the science game at the UCI, where the Deputy Rector of our University made the first play of this tournament.
