The First National Workshop on Computerization of the organs, agencies of the central State administration and national entities will be held at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) on 20 and 21 June.

The First National Workshop on the Computerization of the Organs, Organizations of the Central State Administration and National Entities will be held at the University of Information Sciences (UCI) on 20 and 21 June. In its first day, the most debated topics were related to e-government and e-commerce and the applications developed in the country.

The activity was presided over by Dr. C. Miriam Nicado García, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, of the Council of State and rector of the UCI; Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, deputy head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella and Wilfredo González Vidal, deputy ministers of communications; Juan Manuel López Acevedo, member of the Commission for the Implementation of the Guidelines; and Omar Pérez Salomón, official of the Central Committee of the Party, who is responsible for communications.

In her words of welcome, Dr. C. Nicado Garcia highlighted the progressive progress of the country in the computerization of society and the role of those attending the workshop to promote this essential aspect for our society.

 

 

Wilfredo González Vidal, on his turn, referred to the Informatization Policy of the company approved in the country as the guiding document. He also highlighted the role of the human resources that have this important mission in their hands and recalled the 22 computerization projects that make up the National Plan.

González Vidal also highlighted local initiatives to digitize services and implement digital portals, which must be made available to citizens.

 

 

 

 

 

MSc. Ariagna González Landeiro, subdirector of Special Projects of the UCI, presented the experience of the Cuban Website Monitor developed at the University and made it available to the Organisms of the Central State Administration and the National Entities to evaluate and promote through good practices the positioning of Cuban websites and contents in the.cu domain.

The Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A. (Etecsa), through its president, Mayra Arevich, presented the progress made in the deployment of the communications infrastructure to support the computerization process.

Afterwards, the Central Bank of Cuba shared its digital agenda and the main projects it will develop between 2018 and 2019. Among them were mentioned  the PasaRed payment gateway for e-commerce, the expansion of the payment of services through ATMs, the increase in the use of Telebanca cards and the apk Transfermóvil.

 

 

 

 

The Ministry of Domestic Trade presented the five projects for the implementation of electronic commerce in the country. The virtual store of 5th and 42, in Havana; the wholesale market with destination to the non-state forms of management; the Wholesale Store of Industrial Products, of the Company Gran Comercial; the services of reservation and lodging, and an application to manage the commercialization of idle inventories and of slow movement, were the experiences presented.

The meeting emphasized the role of the 600 Young Computer and Electronics Clubs in the country that bring new technologies to the Cuban family.

During the afternoon session, the experiences of several software development companies in the country and the platforms implemented were presented, based on practical examples of the use of the organizations involved. The experiences of the Defence Technology Company (Xetid), Desoft and Softel were heard.

This Thursday other institutions will continue to show their experiences. The Ministry of Justice will deal with the computerization of public registers. The Ministry of Communications will update everyone on the current status of e-government implementation throughout the country.

The General Customs of the Republic, the National Office of Statistics and Information, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education will present the digital services they provide to the population today and their development prospects. Other software development companies will also share their results.

But, without a doubt, the highlight of the day will be the presentation of two applications developed by the UCI: toDus and ApkLis. The first, a collaborative messaging client; the second, the android application center for Cuba. On them, expect further work in the Mella newspaper.
