The Ecuadorian professor Jaime Casanova is one of the participants of the VIII meeting PGCUBA that is developed during this week at the University of the Informatics Sciences (known as UCI).

He has been a member of the PostgreSQL Community for 13 years and founder of the User Group of this system in Ecuador, where he has been an active contributor as a beta tester and reviewer. In 2007 he began the promotion of the use of this database system through talks and training in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Jaime has attended four events from the eight that have been held in Cuba. To know more details about his opinion our editorial made a small exchange related to the subject.

- What activities did you do to contribute to the meeting on this occasion?

- This time I did a training related to the Processing of large volumes of data with Postgres-XL and also we exchanged with the participants in a talk called Escalando ando, during the inauguration of the event.

- We know that you have visited our University four times, can you tell us about your experiences related to these events that you have attended?

- It is true, I have already come four times and it is very nice to see that in Cuba has been done continuously these events, from 2009 to date and I like the idea of collaborating, and also the island is very beautiful to visit.

- What do you think of your staying at the University of Informatics Sciences?

- The University is very beautiful, people are spectacular, they treat us very well and they have already taken me to know many places in it, the works of art that are here, to Havana we went for a walk; Then I already have friends around here who wait for me every time I come and that is very nice because it feels very hot here.

- What can you tell us about the Postgre communities in Ecuador?

- People who develop for Postgre in my country are very few, but there is a lot of people that is beginning to see the value of this database, especially in government.

"Many in the government today are betting on Postgre. In the first place because they save a lot of money which can be used  to social benefit, but also because it supports the local company. Many local people can support this type of database without needing permissions from other sides and that contributes to the local economy; Also the database is very good.

"So if the database is good, you can support the local economy and the money is not wasted by sending it off, it can be reversed in social works, it has been decided that it is a very good investment and it is betting a lot on Postgre ".
