On January 10, when we recall the 89th Anniversary of the murder of Julio Antonio Mella, the room that honors this renowned patriot at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), paid tribute to his memory with new activities.

The Rubén Martínez Villena hall of this institution was the center for the homage, among other tributes paid these days to those who did so much in such a short time.

A website named Mella, University icon, implemented by the student Jorge A. Román Donates was displayed, as well as the Android application about the life of this young revolutionary, this latter developed by Lisardo García Jane and Deborat Céspedes Rodríguez, all fifth year students at this university. These products were also exhibited in the History Forum of School 2.

Likewise, there was a talk on "The revolutionary process of the 30s and the figures of Mella and Villena in its center" introduced by the MSc. Oneida Benítez Menéndez, vice president of the Mella Honoring Room. The participants could gain knowledge of details about the strong friendship that arouse between these young people who shared the same ideals; their fight against corrupt governments, mainly against Gerardo Machado’s. They also learnt about Mella's life in exile and finally his murder in Mexico.

In closing the talk, the young people were told about the importance of following the struggle of our people to keep Cuba free and sovereign, and about the role the youth should play to continue pursuing the dreams of all those heroes and martyrs who offered their lives for defending their revolutionary ideas.
